  • Naperville Noon Lions sponsored a Feed My Starving Children event at Benedictine University in early March and joined local volunteers on March 8 to pack meals for those in need—while their board approved $17,500 in donations for several local charities at a meeting held at the Pomegranate Restaurant in Aurora.  Positively Naperville
  • Mimi and Gucci, a pair of bonded pitbull mixes surrendered by their terminally ill owner to the Naperville Area Humane Society in February, were adopted by an anonymous local couple on March 27. They are settling well in their new home with a large backyard and warm, cozy nights—shelter staff say the dogs are happy and safe.  Naperville Sun

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pronto Italian Sandwiches will open downtown Naperville this summer at 221 S Washington St where a building is split into two parts. Founders Peter Burdi, his wife Dana, and chef Saul Maya—who got the idea in Italy—plan to serve 11 sandwich types with fresh schiacciata bread and will ask for a liquor license to serve alcohol.  Naperville News 17
  • Sparrow Coffee on Water Street, just off the Naperville Riverwalk, serves roasted coffee and in-house baked pastries that have drawn a loyal local crowd. General Manager Megan Gottig said the shop sells large amounts of coffee and will open a second location in Clarendon Hills this fall—adding more options for coffee lovers.  Naperville Sun

CRIME NEWS

  • A Neuqua Valley High School teacher, William Schaub, was arrested on April 3 after school officials reported a tip on March 7 about an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, and investigators found messages and evidence of physical contact that have led him to face charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and grooming.  Naperville News 17
