COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Santa Claus returns today on his sixth annual Sleigh Tour in Naperville to bring holiday cheer and raise funds for local nonprofits through Santa's Christmas Charities. The 12‑night tour will visit up to 80 neighborhoods and reschedule stops missed because of a recent snowstorm — ensuring every area gets a visit — while residents can sponsor stops and track his route online.  Naperville News 17
  • DuPagePads received a five million dollar grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund on Giving Tuesday to expand services for families facing homelessness in DuPage County. The nonprofit will use the investment over the next five years to boost outreach + provide year-round shelter + improve supports for children in education and transportation.  Positively Naperville
  • The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association improved its inclusive programs last year to strengthen community ties and expand access to recreation — boosting staff training, volunteer support and local partnerships. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On December 1, Naperville police and fire crews went to the train station (105 E. 4th Ave.) after a male city contractor operating snow removal equipment was struck by an eastbound freight train and died, while Mayor Wehrli offered condolences and officials cooperated with the ongoing investigation (by Metra Police).  Naperville News 17

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spirit Christmas opened a new store on Route 59 in Naperville this year—featuring holiday decorations and costumes—in a bid to offer a hands-on seasonal shopping experience. The shop is a sister store of Spirit Halloween and will remain open until the end of the year.  Naperville News 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • First Congregational Church of Naperville applied for historic landmark status to protect its 1906 limestone sanctuary, the city’s oldest church located along Benton Avenue and Center Street across from Central Park. The Historic Preservation Commission will review the application and hear community support on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. (in Rooms A and B at the Naperville Municipal Center).  Positively Naperville
  • City council approved a 46-page report on Naperville’s bicentennial in 2031 and will select a volunteer chairperson to lead the planning in early 2026. The application process — set to start Jan. 5 with applications due by Feb. 13 — is open only to current residents who are not elected officials.  Naperville News 17
