- ➤ The Naperville Jaycees will host Last Fling from Aug 29 to Sept 1—an event with roots in the 1960s that raises funds for local agencies and supports projects like the Jaycees Marina and Park. Positively Naperville
- ➤ The City of Naperville is accepting applications for over $2M in grants that will support community development, arts, social services, and opioid remediation projects with deadlines from Oct. 3 to Oct. 24. - ➤ The fourth defendant, Francisco Alvarado, 25, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Wednesday for his role in the killing of 18-year-old Luis Guerrero in West Chicago in 2018—closing a seven-year case. FOX 32

- ➤ Several suburban high schools were named among Illinois' top 25 by U.S. News & World Report based on college readiness, exam scores, and graduation rates. Naperville’s Neuqua Valley High School placed 12th in the state and District 204 leaders said the ranking shows their strong commitment to quality education. Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 19, Naperville city council voted to replace a planned home rule sales tax increase with a 1% local grocery tax to cover a projected $6.5 million shortfall when the state tax ends in 2026—Councilman Benjamin White switched his vote and Mayor Scott Wehrli along with other members backed the move to ease the tax burden on residents. - ➤ Naperville City Council members voted 7—2 to support a 20-year electricity contract extension if conditions like increased voting rights and carbon footprint benchmarks are met. Mayor Scott Wehrli will attend today's IMEA meeting in Springfield to discuss the changes—final approval will come after further review. Daily Herald
- ➤ Councilwoman Allison Longenbaugh resigned from the Naperville City Council on Tuesday, Aug. 19 after accepting a new private-sector job that does not allow her to hold office—her resignation becomes official on Monday, Aug. 25. Positively Naperville
