- ➤ A Glen Ellyn man received a 7.5-year sentence after pleading guilty to drug-induced homicide for giving his girlfriend fentanyl that caused her death after a drug purchase in Oak Park—he must serve 75% of his sentence before he can try for parole, officials said. FOX 32

- ➤ The Naperville Unit Education Association filed notice of intent to strike after teachers voted to authorize a strike as contract talks with the school board stalled, which could lead to a work stoppage interrupting classes as early as Monday, Aug. 25. The union said the filing was required by law and a rally is planned for Monday, Aug. 18 while negotiations with a mediator resume on Tuesday, Aug. 19 — salary proposals remain the main sticking point. - ➤ Last spring, two sandhill crane chicks arrived at DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center after being separated from their injured parent, and staff cared for them with help from another injured crane that became a foster parent — after rehabilitation, the blended family was released to the wild and has been seen thriving. - ➤ DuPage County officials celebrated a ribbon-cutting event on Wednesday in Wheaton where Illinois lawmakers, county health officials, and community members marked the opening of the new Crisis Recovery Center.
