The Cress Creek Garden Club in Naperville has marked 50 years of planting gardens and raising funds for charities and student scholarships since it began in 1975.

In November the group will host its 50th anniversary fundraiser at Bolingbrook Golf Club—demonstrating its enduring role in the community.

Today, Naperville hosts volunteer work at Serendipity Resale Shop — open 10AM to 5PM — to benefit Little Friends while also offering family-friendly arts and dining events such as a painting party at Pinot’s Palette and lunch at Kreger’s.

Saturday and Sunday bring outdoor gatherings with a Farmer’s Market, live music by Riverwalk Pickers, Halal Fest celebrations, and a Sprint Triathlon, giving residents a range of local activities throughout the weekend.

Naperville police are searching for Olasinmibo 'Sinmi' Abosede—last seen July 30 in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street wearing a long-sleeved Adidas jacket, gray sweatpants, a headscarf and black Crocs while carrying a white water bottle—and no foul play is suspected.

In late July, Naperville resident Louis Giokas spotted at least a dozen great white egrets at May Watts Park—an unusual gathering compared to their typical solo flights along the pond.

Visitors continue to enjoy the park's scenic trails and natural surroundings.

The Naperville Police Department is now accepting applications for a free 10-week Citizen Police Academy that will run every Wednesday from Sept.

17th through Nov. 19th and offer residents a closer look at police operations. Applications must be in by Wednesday, Aug. 13th via email, fax, or in person & all applicants will undergo a criminal background check.

Jeff Thorne, a 53-year-old Naperville resident and former head coach, is battling Stage 4 gastric cancer after nine treatment sessions and surgery in July — his family is rallying with a fundraiser to explore alternative therapies — as he remains optimistic about his recovery.
