On July 2, Naperville's Municipal Band and Chorus celebrated Independence Day 250 with a performance of 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic' at the Community Concert Center in Central Park (led by Music Director Kevin Kelly and conducted by Emily Binder and William Jastrow).

Eighth-graders at Lincoln Junior High led a campaign to choose the black-and-gold bumblebee as the official state bee when Gov. Pritzker signed House Bill 4438 on Thursday (July 2) at the school with lawmakers and families.

The symbol now joins icons like the northern cardinal and bluegill.
