COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Inside Out Club launched its 15-day Kindness Challenge on June 15 that will run through July 15 as Naperville families and individuals complete acts of kindness to earn a Kindness Kit—containing a yard sign, tracking sheet, craft, and postcards. Over 60 kids from 31 families across 7 cities joined the event and participants can submit their tracker by July 15 to claim a prize.  Daily Herald
  • DuPage and Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity is hosting an online auction and raffle that offers prizes such as luxury vacations, Bears tickets, and themed gift baskets to support building affordable homes. Limited foursomes are still available for the Swing Fore Housing Golf Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club on June 23—everyone can participate online.  Daily Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire on June 19 in a three-story apartment on the 1500 block of W. Jefferson Ave caused about $30,000 in damage and led to the evacuation of four residents but no one was hurt—firefighters put out the blaze in 15 minutes and declared the building safe.  Naperville News 17

  • Belgio’s Catering in Naperville marks its 25th anniversary this month, founded in 2000 by brothers Tim and Tom Belgio after a start at a local summer staple. CRIME NEWS

  • Rocky Ahmedyar, a 35-year-old man from Elgin, was arrested after he allegedly fired his silver Kimber 9mm at his estranged wife as she tried leaving her Naperville residence on June 17 at about 3:05 a.m.—he now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated stalking, and a violation of an order of protection.  Naperville News 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Actor Gary Sinise, known for films (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Ransom, and The Green Mile), will perform with his Lt. Dan Band on July 12 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton to honor veterans.  FOX 32

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Naperville City Council began reviewing whether to continue the 1% grocery sales tax—currently providing about $6.5 million for municipal services—after the state ended the tax. Council members debated alternatives such as increasing the home rule sales tax for 2026, and further discussions are scheduled for next month.  Naperville News 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 7, over 300 Naperville residents joined the 'Walk with Charlie' at Prairie Elementary School to support 8-year-old Charlie Sims, who has Batten disease and is receiving gene therapy at Rush Hospital. Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli declared June 9 as Team Charlie and Batten Disease Awareness Day, and a state House resolution was issued to honor Charlie’s fight + call for more research on rare pediatric diseases.  Naperville News 17
