- ➤ More than 2,000 rubber ducks raced in the DuPage River Friday in downtown Naperville as the Riverwalk Duck Race returned after a gap of five years. The winning duck, number 709, took home a $1,981 grand prize + proceeds from duck sales supported the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation while visitors enjoyed scavenger hunts and displays of painted duck sculptures. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ City officials gathered at Nichols Library on Wednesday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that unveiled four new ukiyo-e art pieces by local artist Rich Lo as part of the Waves of DuPage—Beautiful Cities Public Art Project. The artwork will remain on display through September while ArtForum launches to support public art in the community. Naperville News 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Naperville District 203 staffers presented on June 2 a pilot program for NESPA members that will assign mentors at each building to boost recruitment and retention. The initiative has a $15,000 budget for mentor stipends and wages and will be adopted by the board on June 16—plans call for expanding the support after the initial phase. Naperville News 17

- ➤ Naperville native Zack Sharp, who won a national championship with Western Michigan on April 12, threw the first pitch at Tuesday’s White Sox game—an 8-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. He is a ChiSox athlete benefiting from a NIL program that offers mentoring and brand-building opportunities to student-athletes. Daily Herald
- ➤ Naperville North junior Claire DeCook scored both goals in a 2—1 win over Lane Tech at North Central College, moving the Huskies into today’s Class 3A state championship game against the winner of the Barrington/O’Fallon semifinal.
