COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sat., May 10, the Paddleboat Quarry will open on the Riverwalk near Rotary Hill for summer weekends from 10AM to 7PM—paddleboats, paddleboards and kayaks are available on a first-come, first-served basis for rides lasting 20 or 40 minutes, marking the start of the aquatic season. Centennial Beach will open on Memorial Day weekend with its own lineup of aquatic programs.  Positively Naperville

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chicago Sinfonietta, led by Maestro Mei-Ann Chen, will close its 37th season with Tonal Transformation at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville and at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Auditorium Theatre in Chicago—saxophonist Timothy McAllister will perform the Chicago premiere of his Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Strings while Brittany J. Green’s In the Beginning also debuts. The program will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F Minor and end the season with a rich display of musical tones.  Daily Herald

  • Naperville City Council members Benny White, Ian Holzhauer, Mary Gibson, and Ashfaq Syed were sworn in on Sunday at City Hall—replacing outgoing Jennifer Bruzan Taylor and Paul Leong as the city prepares for new leadership.  Naperville News 17
  • DuPage County launched a new automated tornado siren system on May 1 that activates when the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning—helping deliver alerts more quickly to outdoor residents. The system uses geographic targeting to improve emergency response during severe weather.  Naperville News 17
  • On Friday, May 9, the Naperville Police Department will join several regional agencies (South Barrington, Shorewood, Plainfield, West Chicago, Streamwood, Wauconda, and Warrenville plus the Cook County Sheriff) to enforce traffic laws targeting speeding, distracted driving, and seat belt violations along Route 59 from Lake County to Will County.  Positively Naperville

  • Naperville Central senior forward Bella Brozek, a Green Bay recruit, helped the team outscore opponents 61-5 this season by recording seven goals and seven assists. With senior forward Callie Tumilty now leading scoring and the team winning seven games in a row, the Redhawks showed a balanced attack — creating scoring chances with coordinated play.  Naperville Sun
