CRIME NEWS

  • A student fight led to a brief lockdown at Naperville North High School on Tuesday, April 22 when a staff member activated the Crisis Alert system around 2:29 p.m.—one juvenile was taken into custody and no weapons were found.  FOX 32

CULTURE NEWS

  • Naperville’s St. Raphael Catholic Church marked Pope Francis’s death on April 21st—displaying black and purple bunting, a framed portrait, yellow chrysanthemums and a lit candle—while local parish officials plan upcoming remembrance services.  Naperville Sun
  • Federal budget cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency ended an $84,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the DuPage Children’s Museum, halting plans to develop a traveling Questioneers exhibit. The museum is now seeking private donors + sponsors to continue offering educational experiences to local children.  Naperville News 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naperville Writers Group announced the winners of the High School Writing Prize when project coordinator Ray Ziemer and chairperson Andrea Visione presented awards at Neuqua Valley High School—winners from Neuqua Valley include Alisha Bilal for poetry and Daniel Srbinov for short story while Sarah Riemer from Naperville North will receive the nonfiction prize on April 30. Each winner received $300, a certificate, and will have their work published in the Rivulets journal.  Daily Herald
  • The Naperville District 203 School Board tabled a vote on the Innovative School Experience because board members could not agree on changing student schedules without more community input—administrators said they will gather further feedback and form a committee to review the proposal before a future vote. The plan would adjust school start and end times and add minutes for instruction, with officials stressing that its costs and benefits must be fully understood.  Naperville Sun
  • On Monday, April 21, the Naperville School District 203 Board of Education tabled three new administrative recommendations on the future school day structure after lengthy discussions on proposed start and end times and input from parents, teachers, and students (the earliest changes could be implemented at the start of the 2026-27 school year). Several board members stressed that more community feedback is needed before any formal vote is taken.  Naperville News 17
  • Naperville North High School issued a temporary lockdown Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. after a physical altercation between students occurred—officials confirmed no weapons were involved and all were safe.  Naperville News 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 15, Naperville City Council voted unanimously to sell a 4.68-acre parcel in south Naperville to an affiliate of housing developer Gorman and Co for Tower Court Residences—an affordable housing project for seniors and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The decision received strong support from local residents and officials who see it as a step forward in community inclusivity.  Naperville News 17
  • Naperville City Council approved new union contracts on April 15 that add $7.5 million to the city budget over three years and give police and firefighters a 7% raise retroactive to January 1 — a notable jump compared to past agreements. City officials will review plans after the grocery tax expires on Jan. 1, 2026 — a change that may force spending cuts.  Naperville Sun
