COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Local residents sent letters questioning the city council's plan to extend an electricity supply contract with IMEA and urging the District 203 School Board to delay its vote on changing student schedules until May 5—after new members are seated. Another letter backed HB2634 to strengthen state vaping laws to protect students—addressing concerns about illicit marketing and youth exposure. Naperville Sun
- ➤ Naperville was named one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America for the second year in a row when Livability.com unveiled its 2025 list, scoring 841 out of 1,000 based on factors such as education, safety, and amenities. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Naperville Unit District 203 school board will vote on Monday on a plan that uses block scheduling at high schools and modified block at middle schools. The plan allows for a review of school start and end times by a committee meeting three times between May 1 and June 12 — officials said the change comes after community debate and teacher union discussions. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Naperville City Council approved a new three-year contract with the union representing police officers — the contract gives a retroactive 7% raise effective January 1 and plans for 8% and 3% increases in the following years. It also includes an annual $4,250 bonus for officers with at least 25 years of service — education stipends and modest changes to the medical plan are part of the deal at a total cost of about $3.17 million. - ➤ Naperville Public Library is set to begin nearly $1M in renovations at Nichols Library this fall as part of an ongoing upgrade effort — the work will start in September and finish by mid-December with community and program rooms temporarily closed while bids go out in May and board approval is expected in June — marking the last project until new improvements are planned.
