ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A landscaper rescued a driver trapped in a car that veered into a pond near the intersection of Royal Worlington Drive and Illinois Route 59 on Wednesday around 10:00 a.m. after a traffic accident, and firefighters later freed the driver and provided on-scene care—officials commended the quick response.  Daily Herald
  • A landscaper rescued a driver on Wednesday morning near Royal Worlington Drive and Route 59 in south Naperville after a traffic accident plunged the car into a pond with about six feet of water — Plainfield and Naperville fire crews responded around 10 a.m. to pull the car and provide medical attention.  Naperville News 17

  • Barnes & Noble will reopen its downtown Naperville store at 9 Jackson Ave. on April 23 at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by bestselling author Mary Kubica—marking the return after the previous 25-year location closed in January 2024.  Naperville News 17
  • Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville was ranked Illinois’ top drive-worthy small business by Advance Funds Network after a survey showed customers drove more than an hour to visit the store at 123 W. Jefferson Ave. The family business, which began in 1875 (started by Becky Anderson’s great-great-grandfather), now operates additional locations in Downer’s Grove and Aurora.  Naperville News 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Naperville police arrested Dannie Thompson, 35, of Chicago for aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon after finding a firearm, an open bottle of tequila, and a cup of tequila in an unoccupied car at the Topgolf parking lot (3211 Odyssey Ct) on Saturday, April 12 shortly after midnight; his arrest marks the eighth gun-related arrest at this location this year.  Naperville News 17

  • The Naperville Police Department will host a free traffic safety webinar at noon on April 23 to explain crash data from 2024 and how new steps will improve road safety—Police Chief Jason Arres and officials from the Transportation, Engineering and Development department will share ways for residents to help lower accident risks.  Positively Naperville

SPORTS NEWS

  • On April 16, Naperville North edged Lyons Township 1-0 when Tennessee recruit Claire DeCook scored a late goal — her fourth of the season — to secure a spot in the Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish Classic championship game. The Huskies will face New Trier in the final at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.  Daily Herald
  • Naperville North's boys lacrosse team earned their first win of the season by defeating Naperville Central 4-3 on Wednesday after midfielder Jake Springer scored two goals, including a game-winner with 3:42 left in the fourth quarter. Both teams played strong defense—goalies Lincoln Malley and Tony Fascia made key stops while coaches praised the team's effort.  Daily Herald
