COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Naperville Fire Department specialist Soraya McLaughlin explained that hoarding creates clutter which can block exits and bring fire risks—flames from heat sources and obstructed pathways put both residents and first responders in danger. Residents are urged to create and practice a home escape plan and test smoke alarms monthly.  Positively Naperville

CULTURE NEWS

  • Naperville city is inviting teens to design art to cover six streetlight controller boxes near Naperville Central and Naperville North High Schools. Interested participants must submit entries by April 30 (final selections will be announced by May 20 with installations by June 30) to help bring color to plain traffic equipment.  Positively Naperville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Naperville firefighters Danny Puknaitis and Michael Jost invented the Poseidon Nozzle to fight electric car fires by attaching it to a hose and sliding it under burning vehicles to stop battery fires. They refined the tool through careful tests—using local lab and university research—and it is now available for other fire departments.  Naperville News 17
  • The Naperville Police Department is now accepting applications for a free six-week Youth Academy that will run on Thursday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning May 29 and ending July 10 except the week of July 4 — the program gives local teens hands-on lessons and discussions about law enforcement, held at 1350 Aurora Avenue — with applications due by May 21.  Positively Naperville
  • On March 11, Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli met with officials from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), the Taiwanese Culture Center and local community leaders to discuss business growth and cultural exchange. He also led a tour of the City Council meeting room and his mayor’s office to highlight the city’s economic strengths.  Positively Naperville

  • Naperville residents caring for loved ones with dementia now have a new free support group presented by the Alzheimer’s Association that meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 1-2 PM at the Naperville Public Library (95th Street). Led by facilitator Lisa Kirchner, the informal sessions let caregivers share challenges and resources in a confidential setting.  Positively Naperville

  • KidsMatter urged Naperville families to plan a fun summer by having each member list ideas and grouping them into must-have events—this method helps schedule affordable outdoor and home activities for weekly enjoyment.   • Naperville North senior Jack Reif, who has made two All-America teams, is working with teammate Mason Hofmann to push the water polo team as they aim for a state title this season— their strong practice habits helped the Huskies start the season 14—2.
