COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Naperville has been named the best city to live in America for the second year in a row by Niche—an online database that used 15 factors like schools, family-friendliness and health to rank it first out of 229 cities. It also earned top marks for buying a house, raising a family and public schools.  Naperville News 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Naperville Police arrested Max Bosco and Emily Frasca after linking them to an armed robbery at a local bank drive up ATM at 1301 E. Ogden Ave. & a robbery at a Lisle convenience store, with court appearances set for April 14 and April 21 while authorities note the suspects remain presumed innocent.  Positively Naperville

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Big Blue Swim School offers adaptive swim lessons for children with special needs at its Naperville site to improve water safety and lower drowning risks. The program uses the Swim Whisperers Methodology—certified instructors tailor lessons for each child while families can meet instructors during free trial classes.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Naperville officials are planning a rule change that will require banks to get a zoning variance before using downtown ground floors—this proposal was supported by the planning and zoning commission after Councilman Patrick Kelly raised concerns following a recent case with Fidelity Investments and Wells Fargo Bank.  Daily Herald
  • On March 19, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted in favor of an ordinance that will require banks to obtain a variance for ground-floor operations and add financial institutions to the list of businesses needing city approval+ a change intended to support retail and restaurant development downtown. A staff report from Transportation, Engineering and Development backed the proposal and noted that existing banks will be grandfathered in+ the measure now moves to the city council for final review.  Naperville News 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • The girls basketball season ended with Montini winning the Class 3A championship while Fremd & St. Edward earned state trophies. High honors went to standout players such as Anna Campanelli, Sydney Johnson, Danyella Mporokoso, Coco Urlacher & Nikki Kerstein.  Daily Herald
  • Yale senior John Poulakidas, a former Neuqua Valley standout — who scored 23 points in Yale’s NCAA Tournament loss to Texas A&M on Thursday — now plans to declare for the NBA draft and begin workouts with NBA teams in May. He led Yale to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and worked hard to attract interest from scouts.  Naperville Sun
