Good morning, Naperville. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 15th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Raphael Catholic Church in Naperville helps families in need using its Loaves & Fishes pantry and Society of St. Vincent de Paul (the pantry started in 1984 and now gives food to over 10,000 people each month). The church also directs those in crisis to other local services while keeping information private and treating people with respect.  Positively Naperville
  • The Naperville Garden Club will hold its September meeting on Sept. 24 at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Road, where horticulturist Nina Koziol will guide members on starting a cutting garden and arranging homegrown flowers—RSVP is required by Sept. 17 as catered refreshments will be served.  Positively Naperville

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cathrine Savino has played with the Naperville Municipal Band for 8 years and works as a band director at CCSD 93 while enjoying pottery at Clay Space in Lisle. She said Naperville's support helps the band thrive — she will always remember the honor of leading the group and playing a solo under Ron Keller.  Positively Naperville
  • The Naperville Woman’s Club held its 65th Fine Art & Artisan Fair at Naper Settlement where an artist showcased Victorian dollhouses with detailed brass doorknobs — each piece sparking warm memories of art and family. One member donated a purple house in memory of her stepdaughter Kate, and it is now displayed at the club.  Positively Naperville
  • Naperville will host the 40th Annual Riverwalk Fine Art Fair Sept. 20th and 21st from 10AM—5PM along Jackson Avenue between Main and Eagle Streets. Organized by the Naperville Art League, the event will feature original works from 100 artists, live music and family activities along the vibrant Riverwalk.  Positively Naperville

HEALTH NEWS

  • Falls Prevention Awareness Week will run from September 22 to 26 to remind older adults that falls are not a normal part of aging. The Fry Family YMCA will offer Active Older Adult programs to help seniors improve balance, strength, and flexibility to lower the risk of falls.  Positively Naperville
  • Naperville observes National Falls Prevention Month this September as residents are urged to get health checkups, review medications, stay active, and secure their homes to reduce fall risks. Local experts recommend removing clutter and using supportive footwear—steps that help prevent falls.  Positively Naperville
  • Versiti Blood Centers is urging community members to donate blood as part of the 'We Give Blood' campaign running until December 5—donations help meet constant needs for trauma, cancer, and emergency care during the holiday season. NFL star Drew Brees and Big Ten programs are also promoting the drive, with the top university to win $1 million for community health, so Naperville donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment or walk in at local centers.  Positively Naperville
