BUSINESS NEWS

  • Samuel Stockton proposed a new escape room business called Escapology near Block 59 using a 6,284-square-foot space with a dozen themed rooms that received unanimous support from the Planning and Zoning Commission on August 20th—now awaiting a final vote from city council.  Naperville News 17
  • Lennon's opened a month ago at 16 W. Jefferson Ave. in downtown Naperville with three dining options on three floors. The first floor serves family-style small plates, the second floor debuts this weekend with an upscale bar menu and live events, and the third floor will offer a steakhouse menu in a few months—giving guests a place to stay as long as they want.  Daily Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • Erick Palacios, 47, was charged with 11 felony counts for hiding cameras in gym restrooms at Title Boxing Club on Plainfield-Naperville Road after an employee discovered them in March—police later searched his home, found videos taken from January to March, and he turned himself in on August 24.  ABC7 Chicago
  • A Bolingbrook man, Erick Palacios, 47, was charged with 11 felony counts after police found hidden cameras in two bathrooms at a Naperville gym and he turned himself in on Sunday, August 27.  FOX 32
  • Archie Banks, 63, of Westminster Drive, is accused of carjacking a woman at a BP station on Brookdale Drive at 2:07 p.m. and, on Aug. 20, forcing another woman from her vehicle in Warrenville by pointing a pistol at her—police recovered a loaded 9 mm, coiled ropes, duct tape, and gloves from the scene while DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden denied his pretrial release, with a court hearing set for Sept. 22.  Daily Herald
  • Naperville Police reported a rise in dangerous and illegal e-bike use over the summer, noting incidents like riding on sidewalks+ speeding past pedestrians and weaving through traffic with many cases involving kids+ the department will soon propose an ordinance and launch an educational video with local school districts.  Naperville News 17
  • A Chicago woman allegedly led suburban police on a high-speed chase through Villa Park early on August 27th at around 3:20 a.m.—she reached speeds of 109 mph before officers disabled her stolen car with spike strips and now faces charges including aggravated fleeing, possession of a stolen vehicle, and burglary tools.  FOX 32

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naperville teen Adeline O’Neill earned her private pilot’s license after training at JW Aviation Flight School — her checkride was celebrated by young girls at a local airport restaurant — and she plans to inspire more girls to pursue aviation. She will begin her freshman year at Western Michigan University this fall as an aviation flight science major.  Naperville News 17
