CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Naper Settlement’s historic Century Memorial Chapel will receive new HVAC equipment this fall as the Naperville Heritage Society uses a $200,000 state tourism grant + the project will finish by the end of October. Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Naperville School District 203 teachers set a strike date of Tuesday, Aug. 26 and the district said if the strike happens, all schools will be closed with no remote learning or extracurricular activities—childcare options and free meals will be provided. Superintendent Dan Bridges said the Board remains hopeful to reach a fair agreement before the strike date. Naperville News 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Naperville city council voted 5-4 to replace the state 1% grocery tax with a local tax that continues the charge to avoid a $6.5 million revenue loss. The council chose the measure over a proposed 0.25% home rule sales tax, with some members calling it the lesser of two evils—keeping the tax stable for local businesses. Daily Herald

- ➤ Two mosquito traps—one on Oleson Drive and one on Jackson Avenue—tested positive for West Nile Virus in Naperville, and city crews sprayed and checked for breeding sites to reduce mosquitoes. The crews will also spray near the Last Fling festival on Aug. 29 as a precaution. Naperville News 17
- ➤ Naperville officials detected West Nile virus in two mosquito traps on Olesen Drive and Jackson Avenue—crews sprayed the immediate areas, checked breeding sites, and re-treated catch basins.
