COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since March the Eagle Street Gateway project has been underway along Jackson Avenue by the Riverwalk. A storm on Monday evening raised the DuPage River's water level on Tuesday, leaving sections of the walkway impassable with benches in water—workers continued work as of Aug.19.  Positively Naperville

CULTURE NEWS

  • Naperville Irish Fest returns Sept. 19-20 in Central Park with live music, Irish dance, cultural exhibits and local food vendors while offering children’s activities and a $25 donation for each volunteer. Hosted by West Suburban Irish, the event runs Friday from 3 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.  Daily Herald
  • International barbershop champions Instant Classic will perform with the Chorus of DuPage at Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville on Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. during the Summer Dreamin’ a cappella concert—featuring songs by classic bands.  Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 1,500 teachers in District 203 continue to work without a contract and warn that a strike could occur in the next few days — contract talks have dragged on with little progress — prompting concerns over possible school disruptions.  FOX 32
  • Dr. Adrian Talley rang the bell at Brookdale Elementary on Tuesday to start the school year and mark his final time fulfilling tradition as IPSD superintendent—he will step down at the end of the school year. The board has hired a search firm to help find his successor.  Naperville News 17

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Home & Garden calendar lists events from Aug. 24 to Oct. 5 featuring garden shows, club meetings and plant sales, including the Plant Market at Noon Whistle Brewing in Naperville and other horticultural events in nearby communities — all with expert speakers and hands-on gardening tips.
