ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday early morning, a vehicle ignited in the driveway of a house on the 500 block of Scots Drive after a neighbor reported the fire just after 12:45 a.m.—firefighters controlled the blaze after nearly 30 minutes, leaving the home uninhabitable with around $110,000 in damage while the cause remains under investigation.  Daily Herald

CRIME NEWS

  • 31-year-old Jose Gutierrez is accused of pointing a gun at a motorist near Naper Boulevard and leading police on a high-speed chase across I-88 and I-355 before fleeing on foot—he remains in custody after being denied pre-trial release.  Naperville News 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naperville teachers voted today to authorize a strike ahead of school start, although there are no plans to strike at this time—contract talks have continued since February with hopes for a competitive pay increase. This decision gives the union the power to call a strike if negotiations do not meet their requirements.  ABC7 Chicago

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representatives from ULI Chicago will share redevelopment recommendations for the 5th Avenue study area at a public meeting set for 7 p.m. Wed., Sept 10 in Council Chambers at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. The 30- to 40-minute presentation will be followed by a Q&A session—City Council will not take formal action at the meeting and a final report will be released 6 to 8 weeks later.  Positively Naperville

  • Local restaurants and eateries offer special dining events this month. Shaw’s Crab House in Schaumburg will hold its Lobster Festival with special dishes from Aug 15th to Sept 11th with live music on Sept 1st—Niche in Geneva will hold a $100 nose-to-tail dinner on Aug 27th, Woodie’s Wings will open grab-and-go locations in Oswego and Wheeling this summer, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in Lincolnshire will host a wine dinner on Aug 15th featuring wines by Paul Hobbs, and Rosebud in Naperville is set to reopen this summer.  Daily Herald
