  • Nicor Gas urged Naperville homeowners and contractors to call 811 at least two working days before digging, as National 8-1-1 Day on Aug. 11 will highlight the need for professional marking of underground lines.   • The Naperville Jack in the Box at 1600 E Ogden Ave. opened on Aug. 4 and now offers its full menu 24 hours a day — serving breakfast, burgers, tacos, chicken sandwiches, and milkshakes with dine-in, drive-thru, and mobile ordering options.   • Gbenga Abosede, husband of missing Sinmi Abosede, asked Naperville residents for help on Friday at the police station after his wife vanished on July 30th while on a walk from home and police reported they are reviewing footage and conducting searches at locations including Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve — urging anyone with information to call 911.  Naperville News 17

  • On August 4, OPUS students performed for veterans and retirees at Wentz Concert Hall during the Salute, Honor, and Love concert + following a week-long music camp that helped young musicians develop their skills. More than a dozen students played orchestral and chamber music and presented arts connection projects to highlight their growing talent.  Naperville News 17
  • The Chabad Jewish Center of Naperville will host its End of Summer Community BBQ & Open House at The Abrams Center for Jewish Life on Sunday, Aug. 31 from noon to 2 p.m.—families can enjoy a live performance by Jesse White Tumblers, bouncy houses, carnival games, and more, while tickets are $15 with RSVP by Aug. 24 or $20 after, and free for children 12 and under.  Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naperville Unit District 203 board voted 6-1 to approve using part of its $25 million fund balance to build a new transportation center — a project estimated to cost between $14.8 million and $17.4 million. The center will replace an aging trailer and will include a 6,000-square-foot garage and a 4,000-square-foot office with restrooms for staff and bus drivers.  Daily Herald

  • Thirteen Illinois driver’s license offices now offer walk-in Saturday service starting today from 7:30 a.m. to noon — easing weekday congestion and letting residents renew licenses, register vehicles, apply for REAL IDs, and switch from TVDL; the temporary expansion lasts through Sept.6 to help complete end-of-summer errands.  Daily Herald
  • Hammer and Nails Grooming Shop received permission — with a two-drink limit and 1.5 oz serving restrictions — from the liquor commission to serve spirits and now awaits City Council approval while owner Rebecca Lewis said the salon will enforce safety protocols.  Naperville News 17
