Pet Shelter expanded its Community Clinic to offer treatment for minor illnesses and injuries, vaccines, wellness exams, and spay and neuter surgeries—making pet care more affordable with discounts for veterans, people with disabilities, and those on benefits. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is also running a half-off dog adoption fee promotion through July.

This weekend in Naperville, volunteers help Little Friends, Inc. at the Serendipity Resale Shop from 10 AM to 5 PM on Friday—while Quigley’s Irish Pub offers live music and pub fare and Naper Nights presents a tribute concert for Radiohead and Incubus from 5 to 10 PM at Naper Settlement. Residents will also enjoy the Saturday Farmer’s Market from 7 AM to noon, a live performance by the Riverwalk Pickers, and on Sunday a WAR and Santana tribute concert at Naper Settlement along with dining at Mesón Sabika, public art tours and a scavenger hunt with painted duck sculptures—rounding out a busy weekend for the community.

A judge sentenced Charles Lawler of Villa Park to seven years and eight months in federal prison for his role in five robberies of banks and a credit union between Sept.

2021 and April 2022—he pleaded guilty as his friend Tarandle Lee served as the getaway driver.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office warned Naperville residents about a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be deputies and ask for money to resolve an alleged warrant—officials advise anyone receiving such a call to hang up immediately and report it to local police.

Naperville officials voted Tuesday in a 5-4 decision on an ordinance to raise the home rule sales tax by 0.25% with a two-year sunset clause to offset revenue lost after the grocery tax repeal.

A final vote is expected in August—officials estimate the increase would recover about $6.5 million each year.

At a board meeting on July 8, the DuPage Water Commission’s plan to sell 32.47 acres of surplus land for $14 million was discussed by the DuPage County Board.

Board members raised affordable housing concerns and said they will meet with the developer Pulte Home Co to ensure the project helps meet local needs.

The Naperville Planning and Zoning Commission approved a plan for a 14-lot subdivision near Clow Creek Greenway on July 16th—proposed by Yorkville-based Overstreet Builders for an 8-acre property at 10826-10846 S.

Book Road. Neighbors raised concerns about removing 300 trees, and the developer said he would re-examine the tree removal plan and work with residents to find a compromise.

Naperville City Council approved zoning entitlements for The Residences at Naper & Plank, a Lincoln Property Co. project near Ogden Avenue that will include 34 townhouses and 56 row houses and reserve about 0.62 acres for a park.

Some residents expressed concerns over traffic and density—officials will monitor traffic planning to address these issues.
