  • Six Naperville teen artists were selected in a city contest to brighten streetlight controller boxes near Naperville Central and Naperville North high schools, with artwork featuring hot air balloons, a waterfall, and seasonal themes (to be installed by June 30). City Clerk Dawn Portner praised the project (highlighting local creative talent) as a way to transform everyday infrastructure into art.  Naperville News 17

CRIME NEWS

  • An Elgin man, Rocky Ahmedyar, who is accused of ambushing his estranged wife outside a Naperville home and firing a shot that nearly missed her, was denied pretrial release in DuPage County on June 18 and faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated stalking, and a violation of an order of protection with his next court date set for July 14.  FOX 32

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Tuesday, music filled the Naperville Riverwalk as River Sounds kicked off the free summer series organized by the Downtown Naperville Alliance, featuring local jazz led by Mark Cabinian and an opera performance by Sladjana Saric from a boat on the river. The six-week series runs Tuesday nights from mid-June to the end of July—skipping Fourth of July week—to offer families live music and community space.  Naperville News 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Naperville officials are debating a local tax change to cover a $6.5 million revenue shortfall that will begin on January 1. The city’s financial advisory board recommended a 1% grocery tax while council members also considered a 0.25% home-rule sales tax increase—citing concerns over the effect on SNAP benefits—before filing an ordinance by Oct. 1.  Daily Herald
