- ➤ The West Suburban Community Pantry is launching a Summer Meals Campaign to help fund extra groceries and meals for families whose children will be out of school this summer. Visits to the Pantry increased nearly 20% last year and with rising food costs and proposed SNAP cuts, more families will depend on its services — the campaign aims to meet this growing demand. - ➤ The Naperville Park District will host five free events this June including a kite fly on June 1 at Frontier Sports Complex, live music in local parks, dementia-friendly movie screenings at Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center, and children’s performances starting at 11:30 a.m. — over 75 playgrounds are also available for outdoor play — offering families many ways to celebrate the warmer weather. - ➤ Naperville man Nathan Gonzalez, 36, pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and aggravated cruelty for killing his family’s dog and threatening his daughter and stepdaughter—he received concurrent prison sentences of five and three years and is banned from owning any animal for life. Daily Herald
- ➤ Melvin Gist Jr., a 27-year-old Naperville man, was charged with illegally buying seven handguns and one rifle from local stores to sell them to people not allowed to own guns—one buyer, who was suicidal, ran onto an elementary school campus during a police chase. Daily Herald

- ➤ Naperville North girls soccer team won the sectional championship by beating Neuqua Valley 2-1 on Friday, May 30 when senior Emily Buescher set up Claire DeCook’s penalty kick after a handball call with 3:09 left in the match— they will face Wheaton Warrenville South in Tuesday’s supersectional at 4:30 p.m. Daily Herald
