COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young anglers will have a chance to win prizes in four age groups at the free Just for Kids Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 8 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Silver Lake in Blackwell Forest Preserve; participants 15 and under should bring their own gear as limited supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Daily Herald

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Naperville’s mayor said Block 59 dining district is a key element of the I-88 corridor redevelopment — a project that will boost local business as a new Heinen’s store opens in August and a LifeTime Athletic Resort breaks ground this summer. Other projects include Advocate Health Care’s outpatient clinic review in Lake Zurich, a renovated chicken wing joint opening in Rolling Meadows, an athletic club expansion in Vernon Hills, Fat Rosie’s seventh Oak Brook location that opened on May 23, and planned dining area improvements in Mount Prospect.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • A&A Ballet in partnership with Inspire School of Dance will hold open auditions for its Art Deco Nutcracker on Sunday, June 1 at Inspire School of Dance located at 24125 111th St., Suite 300 in Naperville (630) 527-4777, with placement class registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Auditions for various age groups are free and will follow throughout the morning while dancers are notified by email within a week and rehearsals begin in September.  Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Naperville Park Board approved contracts with two consultants to prepare for a possible bond referendum that may fund a new indoor recreation space many residents support for indoor aquatics. The board will work with Williams Architects & Beyond Your Base to design the facility and review funding options.  Naperville News 17

SPORTS NEWS

  • Naperville North girls soccer won a 1-0 regional championship game against Oswego on Saturday when junior Brooke Welch scored the winning goal— the team will host sectional semifinals next week.  Daily Herald
  • Neuqua Valley’s girls soccer team won a 3-2 overtime victory over Plainfield North after Selma Labri headed in the winning goal with 5:38 left in overtime—ending 55 minutes of scoreless play. The Wildcats will play Naperville Central in the Naperville North Sectional semifinals at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.  Daily Herald
