Good morning, Naperville. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 18th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • An 18 year old volunteer, Drew Applegate, supports Naperville seniors by visiting St. Patrick’s and other community sites on weekends, inspired by his sister’s work with Lizzy’s Fund. He plans to study engineering at Iowa State University this fall while brightening residents’ days.  Positively Naperville
  • Harvey Cooper Williams helped shape Naperville by launching a thriving ice cream business in 1905, organizing the National Bag Company in 1917, and serving on several local boards. Born in Wisconsin and arriving in 1892 to work in his uncle’s store, his legacy lives on through lasting community contributions.  Positively Naperville
  • On Thursday night, Citizens Appreciate Public Safety honored 21 Naperville police at Méson Sabika for their dedication and use of new technology. Officer Peter Pogwizd received both the Courage Under Fire award and the A. George Pradel award — highlighting the department's focus on crisis intervention and community trust.  Naperville News 17

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local gardeners are invited to observe their milkweed plants as new shoots emerge this spring; the state wildflower supports pollinators like monarch butterflies (whose larvae depend solely on milkweed) and adds vibrant colors to gardens. Planting milkweed is a simple step to help sustain our local ecosystem.  Positively Naperville
