Naperville offers a busy weekend of local events, including the Dunkin’ Cop on a Rooftop event at Dunkin’ spots and ISKCON’s Govinda’s Summer Food and Wedding Showcase at the temple, plus art, dining, and music happenings downtown and at neighborhood venues—there’s something for every community member.
Block 59 held a ribbon cutting at its new dining and entertainment district on Route 59 and Aurora Ave, celebrating the opening of restaurants including Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, and Stan’s Donuts.
More businesses and family-friendly events are planned for summer.
L.L.Bean will open its new 16,000 sqft store at 336 S.
Route 59 in Westridge Court in October — the retailer chose the location for its strong local following and outdoor appeal.
The Naperville Park District will launch Concerts in Your Park, a free summer music series, starting May 31 at Century Farms Park and continuing every Sunday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy shows at various neighborhood parks.
Fifteen students from Naperville School District 203, Indian Prairie School District 204, and Benet Academy were named winners of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships.
A committee (including admissions officers and school counselors) based the awards on test scores, academic records, leadership, and community service.
Teacher Matthew White of Scullen Middle School in Naperville received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching after more than 10 years of service, making him the first winner from his district in over 20 years.
The award gives him a $5,000 prize + a spring sabbatical at Northwestern University.
