COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hinsdale residents Don and Dianne Skeet left a generous donation to DuPage Foundation that created the Skeet Fund to support vital youth programs in the community. Local organizations such as Warm Coats for Cool Kids have expanded their services—thanks to the fund’s growth—to help more children and families.  Daily Herald
  • Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Naperville is hosting the free 'Disagreeing Better' workshop on Saturday, May 17, from 9 to 11 a.m.—the event presented by Braver Angels will help participants learn skills to have civil conversations with those who hold different views.  Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Islamic Center of Naperville opened its fourth mosque, An-Noor, at 3540 248th Ave—its 28,400-square-foot facility built from the ground up features themed light designs, spacious prayer halls, and accessible areas. The center will host an open mosque day on May 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., inviting the community to experience its spiritual focus.  Naperville News 17
  • Naperville artist Rich Lo was honored by the DuPage County Board on May 13 for his community contributions during AAPI Heritage Month and for his upcoming ukiyo-e exhibit that will be displayed in Naperville and other parts of DuPage County. Lo, who began his art journey in China and has created local public murals, said he is humbled by the support — he will showcase his work in the joint exhibition opening May 31.  Naperville News 17

  • Loaves & Fishes Community Services has launched its Feed the Earth, Feed the Community campaign to install a commercial composter that will convert excess food scraps into nutrient-rich compost for local partners—funded by a $113,000 grant from Rotary International and local Rotary Clubs.  Positively Naperville

  • Neuqua Valley defeated Naperville North by a score of 1 to 0 Tuesday with Selma Larbi scoring the decisive goal, and Naperville Central closed its season with a 7 to 1 win over Waubonsie Valley to share the DuPage Valley girls soccer title—Metea Valley and Naperville North will face sectional semifinals starting May 27.  Daily Herald
