COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizers announced on May 13 that Naperville Salute is canceled this summer because they did not raise enough money—so they cannot offer the same events as before. They said they will still help with the Naperville Responds for Veterans Ruck March while planning a new celebration in 2026 for Veterans, Military, and First Responders.  Naperville News 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Aishwarya Balakrishna became the first Indian American and youngest board member of Naperville Park Board when she was sworn in on May 8 by Judge Colette Safford; Leslie Ruffing, Rhonda Ansier, and Alison Thompson were reelected to four-year terms. Balakrishna said she will use her voice to serve every resident—marking a historic turn for the park district.  Naperville News 17
  • Naperville telecommunicator Mike Rafferty retires after 46 years of service on Friday, May 16+ his calm voice helped guide many emergency calls by quickly gathering key details. He answered nearly 70,000 police calls and 18,000 fire or EMS calls a year+ and now plans to travel with his wife as he ends his long career.  Naperville News 17

  • Illinois high school athletes may compete in more events outside the school season if the proposed Right to Play Act changes IHSA rules to allow students to join club and travel teams (except for national teams), pending further review. Local lawmakers and IHSA officials have worked together to shape the proposal after listening to coaches and stakeholders.  FOX 32
