  • Ric Gruber, owner of Billy Bricks wood-fired pizza in Naperville, explained his family-run restaurant uses a high-temperature brick oven to create pizzas with a crispy crust and soft interior while serving customers quickly from counter to table. The restaurant offers delivery within a four-mile radius plus plans for future expansion with quality ingredients and careful craftsmanship.  Naperville Sun

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Citizens Utility Board vowed to fight Nicor’s $309 million rate hike request that would add $7.50 to average residential gas bills—funding upgrades to aging infrastructure. Nicor serves more than two million customers in the northern suburbs and has raised rates five times since 2017.  FOX 32

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The inaugural class of the KidsMatter Teen Philanthropy Initiative graduated on April 23 at the Naperville Municipal Center—high school juniors in the two-year program learned nonprofit work, fundraising, and college credit opportunities while raising money for local youth nonprofits. Graduates have reflected on gaining real-world skills that will let them continue making a positive impact in the community.  Naperville News 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Urban Land Institute representatives will hold panel discussions on June 10+11 in Naperville to gather input from residents, business owners, and community groups on redeveloping a 13-acre city-owned parcel near the 5th Avenue train station; the process, supported by the city council, will continue into the fall with a full report expected by then.  Naperville News 17
  • More than 60 government and business leaders visited Naperville last week as part of the Americas Competitiveness Exchange to explore global economic partnerships and new opportunities in sectors like life science, quantum computing and AI. The visit included site tours at Ecolab and Naper Settlement plus remarks from city officials about the community’s growth and innovation.  Naperville News 17
  • Naperville Fire Department will host a free fire prevention presentation at 7 p.m. on May 22 at the Council Chambers—400 S. Eagle St.—to educate residents on the causes of recent structure fires and to offer tips for smoke detector upkeep and home escape planning.  Positively Naperville
