  • Naperville’s annual Memorial Day Parade will honor veterans with a march featuring the Navy Band Great Lakes and community groups, set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 26. The parade committee accepts registrations from veterans, scouts, and marching bands until May 1.  Positively Naperville

  • Barnes & Noble reopened its downtown store on Wednesday with over 70 people lining up to be among the first customers. Bestselling author Mary Kubica cut the ribbon at 9 Jackson Ave and signed copies of 'She's Not Sorry' while store manager John Crum announced local author signings planned for this week—reviving community events that paused during the pandemic.  Naperville News 17

  • An Aurora woman pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for a fatal shooting during a disputed gun sale in Naperville and was sentenced to 12 years in prison Wednesday—charges of first-degree murder and robbery were dropped.  Daily Herald

  • Naperville Central High School Principal Jackie Thornton introduced parenting expert Meghan Leahy at a free GPS Parent Series talk where she explained that building a strong connection with children is the root of improving behavior and trust. Leahy advised parents to focus on simple actions such as making eye contact — which she described as one of the six roots of connection—to help strengthen family bonds.  Naperville News 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet ended inpatient pediatric care and now offers only emergency services for children. Edward Hospital in Naperville will take on additional pediatric cases — a change made after fewer patients needed inpatient care — as the system shifts its focus to other critical treatments.  ABC7 Chicago
