Good morning, Naperville.

Naperville was ranked as the best city to live in America for the second year in a row by Niche, beating out The Woodlands, Cambridge, Arlington, and Irvine — and it also led in rankings for cities to buy a house, raise a family, and for good public schools.

Mayor Scott Wehrli said the awards show how local services work together to keep Naperville a great place to live.

Naperville Park Board officials are reviewing two public art proposals for the Riverwalk, one featuring a spring interactive lightscape near the Dandelion Fountain that will run for a week in April—another proposes 18 duck sculptures for a summer display with details still being finalized. The proposals will require formal approvals, and further information will be shared at an upcoming meeting.

Christine Igoe was unanimously appointed by the IPSD 204 school board on Monday night and will serve as assistant superintendent for student services starting July 1, replacing Christina Sepiol who retires on June 30.

Igoe brings experience from Naperville School District 203 and other roles to guide efforts supporting special needs students and managing student records.

Naperville Park District is holding seasonal prescribed burns at many parks this spring to clear invasive species and help native plants grow—burns are timed with weather and plant cycles to avoid disrupting waterfowl nesting.

Neighbors in West Wind and Countryside asked why some burns are limited to the north sides of ponds, and officials say those areas have better fuel for a successful burn.

Naperville residents can now send a text to 911 during emergencies as DuPage County introduces text-to-911—this service works on all major carriers but does not accept photos, videos, or emojis, and officials still advise calling when possible.

On March 27, the city and Naperville Riverwalk Commission broke ground on the Eagle Street Gateway project to upgrade safety, accessibility and hospitality along the riverwalk; Rep. Bill Foster and Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s offices backed the effort and Baumgartner Construction will complete work in 180 days — visitors can still access the route at Eagle Street south of Farmer’s Plaza.
