About this event

Join the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and Aurora University’s Schingoethe Center Museum for an evening celebrating Native American Heritage Month and the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

The evening will include a discussion of Indigenous artwork led by local artist Nora Moore Lloyd (Ojibwe), a conversation about Joy Harjo’s An American Sunrise led by Aurora University Professor of English Dr. Donovan Gwinner, and a live Indigenous flute performance by local musician Martha Sobie.

The reception begins at 5:00 PM, with the program beginning at 5:30 PM.

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional, ancestral lands of the Council of Three Fires — Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi — and many other Indigenous nations, including the Menominee, Ho-Chunk, Miami, and Illinois. The process of knowing and acknowledging the land we stand on is a way of honoring and expressing gratitude for the ancestral people who were on this land before us.

NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
