About this event

How can northeastern Illinois unite to win the investment and jobs that will sustain the region into the next century?

Northeastern Illinois’ economy is growing, but at a slower pace than other metropolitan areas and the nation overall. Industries that contribute most to the region’s growth have especially struggled to rebound from recent economic disruptions, like the Great Recession and COVID-19 pandemic.

Our future competitiveness depends on how we plan, coordinate, and invest as a region.

The jobs of the future will be different from the jobs of the past. Our region is projected to lose tens of thousands of manufacturing and construction jobs, but is poised to grow in the professional, scientific, technical, and food service sectors.

We are at a “jump ball moment.” With increased regional collaboration and coordinated action, northeastern Illinois can build on recent successes and attract emerging industries and the new high-quality, accessible jobs they’ll bring.

By proactively competing together, our region can build a more resilient economy and attract the new jobs and investments that will fuel the economy for decades to come.

Join CMAP as we convene leaders from across the region to focus on jobs and building a resilient economy.
