About this event

Did you know The Sound of Music has roots in River Forest?

In 1958, as Rodgers and Hammerstein were developing their new musical, a letter from Broadway arrived for a Dominican Sister at what was then Rosary College (now Dominican University). It sparked a friendship and a series of handwritten letters that helped shape one of the most beloved musicals of all time.

This evening tells the story of Sister Gregory Duffy, OP, and her collaboration with a theatre professor from the western suburbs. Hear the stories, see archival materials up close, and learn a piece of history that has rarely been shared beyond the Dominican community.

Moderated by Sister Priscilla Wood, OP. Presented by the St. Catherine of Siena Center at Dominican University.
